Chapter 9
Jim didn’t know why he was holding his breath. It wasn’t as if he’d never been in bed with a hot chick before. But never with a hot chick he’d known his whole life, whom he’d kill himself rather than hurt—whoa. Did he actually have feelings for her?
Alex opened her mouth. Closed it. Opened it again.
Oh, to hell with waiting for her answer. He leaned down and kissed her. Her lips softened and opened beneath his. Her arms snaked up to loop around his neck, and her upper body arched hungrily into his. That was all the answer he needed. He’d been lusting after her ever since he’d caught a glimpse of her in that sexy red ball gown, and she’d made no secret of her desire for him since…he thought back. Now that he thought about it, she’d pretty much always looked at him like that.
She was awkward and eager and rushed as he stripped off her clothes and his, and she was surprisingly shy about wanting the covers over them. How could a woman as beautiful as her not be highly experienced when it came to men? Not that he was complaining. He liked the idea that there hadn’t been many men before him.
But when she kissed him with urgency approaching panic, he had a sudden realization. He propped himself up on an elbow to smile down at her. “Relax, Alex. I’m not going to change my mind about this.”
She looked surprised and then embarrassed. He grinned and pushed her thick, dark hair back from her face. “Tell me what you like,” he murmured.
“Uh, pizza. Coffee ice cream. White chocolate.”
His smiled widened. She really was new at this. An urge to protect her, to make this really special for her surged in his gut, surprising him. He asked casually, “What’s your favorite color?”
“Red.”
No surprise there. Especially given the passion he now knew lurked just under her skin. “Where do you like to go on vacation?”
“Montana,” she answered without hesitation.
He had to agree with her on that one. It was God’s country up in the Rockies.
“Favorite sport?”
“Fishing.”
He hadn’t seen that one coming. “What kind of fishing?”
“Fly-fishing with my dad.”
“Show me how sometime?”
“Next time we’re back in Montana,” she promised.
“Slow and easy or fast and hard?”
It took her a moment to figure out what he was asking. Her cheeks flamed. “Either. Both. I don’t know.”
He smiled gently. “Then why don’t we find out together?”
Now that he had her talking he wasn’t about to let her quit. “Put your hands on me,” he ordered. “Tell me what I feel like.”
She plastered her palms to his chest. “Hard. Warm. I feel your heartbeat. It’s faster than I expected.”
That was probably because even this simple touch was turning him on a lot more than he’d expected it to. Her fingertips were wandering lower, but he managed not to roll over and ravish her on the spot. Barely. Her hands were small and soft as they explored his body. He had to grit his teeth when she grasped him rather boldly.
